So without further ado, here are several noteworthy tracks from this year that should definitely make it onto your rotation.

RAGER BOYZ –Kid Cudi, Young Thug
January 12, 2024
The first half of the year in the rap community is going to be remembered for the legendary beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. However, there were some solid rap projects released in 2024 that might be overshadowed by the hit diss tracks. If you know any songs by Kid Cudi and are familiar with his style, you will find that this song fits right into that. It is fun, upbeat, has a catchy chorus, and solid verses that make it my favorite off this album and one that should be known by more people.
Closure – The Plot In You
January 19, 2024
The first single released by The Plot In You this year makes up one third of their 2024 EP, Vol. 2. This catchy rock song is well-paced, upbeat, and has the ability to reach many different audiences. It captures what the band does so well by offering a wide range of sounds and styles in their songs. While this track leans more towards radio-friendly, others on the same EP feature heavy elements like harsh vocals, intense riffs, lyrics, and breakdowns. It serves as an excellent introduction to the band; however, don’t be surprised when they transition from rock to metal.
Night Gallery – Scrim
February 2, 2024
This song is part of a major release from one half of the $uicideBoy$, Scrim. He is a DJ and songwriter who occasionally releases his own work alongside his cousin Ruby.
“Night Gallery” is my favorite track from the album. It features a catchy chorus, melody, and beat, with dark lyrics that delve into Scrim’s internal struggles with doubt, trust issues, and feelings of emptiness despite external wealth and success. These themes are typical in Scrim’s music. This song stands out as his best sounding track on the album, showcasing the type of introspective lyrics I appreciate in his music. It serves as both an enjoyable listen for its sound and an emotionally impactful experience when delving into the depth of its lyrics.
Use Me – Zach Top
February 23, 2024
A slow and sad country ballad with powerful singing, gentle strumming acoustic guitar, and emotional pedal steel twangs. Top is a rising country star inspired by an older country genre but with a modern sound. While on the surface it may sound like a love song, it is rather melancholic. The song narrates the tale of two individuals dancing, talking, using each other to either forget about past significant others or to cheat on their current partners. There has been a lot of good country music released in the past few years, and this track is one to add to that list which might be lesser known.
Somewhere Between – Dylan Gossett
March 1, 2024
Gossett is a country singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas who burst onto the music scene in 2023. Despite his limited discography, his music shows promise and gives country fans hope for the future. He draws inspiration from subgenres of country including red dirt and bluegrass. This song, in particular, showcases his versatility leaning more into the American folk genre.
Packed with fun and even heavy lyrics delivered with emotion in his voice and a lively upbeat sound makes it a great summer tune. While this song deviates from stereotypical country lyrics/themes, it still explores themes of love and reflects on the perspective of a young wanderer’s life. The banjo really adds to the fun element of this song for me. Coupled with Gossett’s vocal range, it truly makes this track special and one that you can listen to repeatedly without getting bored.
Ritual – TDWP
March 8, 2024
This track has been one of my favorites of 2024 so far. It also just so happens to have been released on my birthday. Sticking with the catchy song theme of the list so far, this is similar to the genre of the first song, “Closure,” on this list.
It’s a metal band doing a more catchy and melodic-sounding song with little to no harsh vocals. Most people are turned off by metal because of the screaming but don’t mind the instruments. This song does have some harsh vocals in the bridge leading into the chorus, but it adds to the buildup of energy towards the amazing chorus. A nice upbeat track with an unexpectedly heavy breakdown for its style. This is great for rock lovers who might be trying to bridge into metal music.
Riding Around In The Dark – Florist
April 25, 2024
Slowing back down to a quiet and soft sound brings us to the next song. Florist has been creating indie pop and folk music for the past decade. They explore darker themes of life and love that contrast with the acoustic-like sound they produce. This song is perfect for “riding around in the dark” during a night drive, for studying, or simply enjoying a quiet, relaxing, and chill vibe.
